Each year, rabies claims over 50,000 lives around the world, most of whom are children. The sad fact remains that virtually all of these deaths are preventable. Vaccination of dogs here in the United States caused a dramatic drop in the number of human cases of rabies while helping our friendly dog population achieve better health. Rabies is now a rare disease in the United States for humans and our domestic animals. This is not true in many other parts of the world where most rabies deaths occur. In India alone, for example, more than 30,000 people die each year from this terrible, preventable disease. In these and other countries suffering from the rabies scourge, insufficient resources for dog control and vaccination combined with inadequate levels of health education and access to appropriate medical care contribute to this continued problem. A Rabies Free World, Inc., hopes to change this unfortunate situation through its programs of education and outreach. Won’t you please join our fight today to end rabies suffering around the world?
